Violence unleashed against state: NHRC chief
The incidents of violence across the county have not erupted from political issues rather these are terrorist activities against the state and its people, Mizanur Rahman, chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), said today.
"This is not political. These acts of terrorism are against the innocent people, the nation and the state," Rahman said at a programme on the 'Current Human Right Situation in Bangladesh' at Shilpakala Academy in the city.
Mentioning number of damages of public properties, arson attacks, cutting down of trees and attacks on minorities, he said, "All of these are happening here… Is 1971 coming back again?"
The NHRC chief also called upon the government to take stern action against people responsible behind the incidents.
Barrister Tania Amir presented a key note paper where she mentioned that the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, are behind the violence unleashed to save war criminals.
