Verdict in Zubair killing case Feb 4
A Dhaka court will deliver its verdict in Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed murder case on February 4.
On completion of the arguments from the prosecution and defence, Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka yesterday fixed the date for the delivery of the judgment.
The court also cancelled the bail of seven out of 13 accused and sent them to jail while the rest were shown fugitives as they escaped from the court dock in February 2014.
Since then police had been trying their best to nab them but failed to arrest any of the fugitives.
Earlier, the court recorded statements of 27 prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case.
Zubair Ahmed, an honours final year student of English, was tortured and stabbed allegedly by some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League on January 8, 2012. He succumbed to his injuries in a Dhaka hospital the following day.
Hamidur Rahman, former deputy registrar of the JU, filed the murder case with Ashulia Police Station the same day.
On April 8 of 2012, police submitted the charge sheet against 13 expelled Chhatra League activists of Jahangirnagar University in connection with the murder case.
During the investigation, accused Najmus Sakib Topu and Mahabub Akram gave confessional statements before magistrates on different dates. On September 8 of 2013, the same court framed charges against all the 13 accused.
