The chemistry between women and her jewellery is a time long one, a love affair that has its genesis in the earliest civilizations, a relationship that is as strong now as it was ever before. In this part of the world, and especially for the Bengali speaking community, the first day of Boishakh marks the auspicious beginning of a New Year. But it is also a day significant for the jewellery loving fashionistas in the country.
This week Star Lifestyle explores the bond between women, haal khata, gold, jewellery et al. We explore the history of the haal khata and its impact on the gold trade, before delving into the economic aspect of the business.
