HC denies bail to Choto Sazzad’s wife

The High Court has refused to grant anticipatory bail to Sharmin Akhter Tamanna, wife of Sazzad Hossain alias Choto Sazzad, in connection with a murder case.
Sazzad Hossaid was a high profile wanted criminal in Chattogram before his arrest.
Sharmin, whose video statement following her husband's arrest went viral on social media last month, was ordered to surrender before the lower court concerned within four weeks, said her lawyer Tasmia Prodhan and Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Mohammad Mujibur Rahman.
The HC bench of Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam and Justice Md Hamidur Rahman passed the order today after disposing of Sharmin's anticipatory bail petition in the case.
Barrister Tasmia Prodhan said her client was accused of being involved in planning the murder.
However, they did not know any details of the murder case.
"I cannot say at this moment who the victim is or who filed the case," she said.
She also mentioned that although Sharmin's petition was listed at the bottom of yesterday's cause list, the court heard and disposed of it early, considering that Sharmin is an expecting mother.
Sazzad Hossain was arrested on the night of March 15 from Bashundhara Shopping Mall in Dhaka. He was later transferred to Chattogram and placed on a seven-day remand on March 16 in a murder case filed with Chandgaon Police Station.
Following the arrest, a video of Sharmin went viral on March 16, in which she appeared to threaten those involved in her husband's capture. "We will spend bundles of money to bring him back. Be prepared. Those responsible for his arrest won't be spared," she reportedly said, drawing widespread public criticism and calls for her arrest.
