Be careful next time you take a Messenger chat screenshot
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook and its parent company Meta, recently announced a brand new feature for Messenger end-to-end encrypted chats. In this update, if someone takes a screenshot of the disappearing message, the other person will get a notification.
According to the screenshot shared by Zuckerberg, the encrypted chat will show a notification inside the chatbox whenever a screenshot is taken, and include the name of the user who took the screenshot. This feature can be used only after activating disappearing messages, in which messages will be removed 12 hours after they have been seen.
The announcement was made on 27 January on Zuckerberg's official Facebook page. In the post, Zuckerberg further added that reactions, stickers and GIFs, which are commonly used features in regular Messenger chats, will be added to Messenger end-to-end encrypted chats as well.
Encrypted chats were added to both Facebook and Instagram in November 2020, and have been a popular feature among users since.
