Sust reverts to unified admission exam with JSTU

The Sust yesterday finally decided to stick to taking a unified test for admission to Sust and Jessore Science and Technology University (JSTU), prompting Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and his wife Prof Yasmeen Haque to withdraw their resignations.
The Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (Sust) academic council, in an emergency meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Aminul Haque Bhuyan, also decided to hold another meeting to fix the exam date.
The academic couple, announcing before the administrative building around 3:00pm to stay back, had submitted their resignation letters at the registrar's office on Tuesday evening
In was in protest of, what they said, the Sust's decision to postpone the combined test, scheduled for November 30 amidst opposition from "a group of people".
The duo stated that admission seekers would face less hassle as the unified exam can be given from both Sylhet and Jessore while the universities will prepare separate merit lists based on their own merit standards.
Meanwhile, "Sacheton Sylhetbashi", a local forum protesting the unified exam, gave the Sust three days to hold the test separately, otherwise they will bring out a procession in the Sust at 11:00am on Sunday.
In a meeting chaired by a Sylhet city ward councillor, Rezaul Hasan Lodi, also the forum's convener, at his Housing Estate office in the city, the forum threatened to declare hartal in Sylhet district on the day before and on the exam day.
They argued that meritorious students will end up in the Sust since it is an older and a more reputed educational institution.
