Inside Walton's Mega Computer Factory

There was a time when Bangladesh was solely depended on importing computer machineries from abroad. Back in 1990s the industry started to grow, import started to go up and we still were solely dependent on importing to quench the thirst of this growing nation. Little did we know, nearly two decade from then, we would be becoming a country that would build hardware locally. That, journey started with the launch of Walton’s computer factory which was inaugurated last month. The factory was inaugurated by Minster of Post, Telecommunication and Information & Technology, Mr. Mustafa Jabbar. We from The Daily Star were invited to take a tour of the factory. Here we bring you some of the sneak-peeks of the factory exclusively for the first time:

After a batch of laptops are assembled, they undergo intensive quality and performance testing. The quality assurance is of global standard before any laptop gets green signal, according to the top management of Walton.

The LCD panel of the laptop does need to pass a hefty quality check in order to make its way to the market. Here the mechanised pressure tool checks if the display panel is properly fitted or not.

This factory of Walton produces every major component for the products. Starting from the exterior plastic cover to the metallic interior to the soft packing material- everything is produced here from scratch.

This is where the keyboards undergoes testing. These long poking machines are able to mimic human fingers. In a matter of minutes, the machine can do several thousands of keystrokes.
