Noted Lalon singer Farida Parveen and Baul Fakir Tuntun Shah captivated the audience at the “Sufi Night” on October 25 that was jointly organised by the Embassy of Bangladesh, Brussels and the Centre for Fine Arts, Belgium– BOZAR.
The ensemble comprised flutist Gazi Abdul Hakim, Debendra Nath Chatterjee (tabla), Delwar Hossain (dotara) and ASM Reza Babu (dhol).
Sufi musical troupes from Morocco, Turkey, Algeria and Senegal also participated in the event, says a press release.
The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Belgium, Ismat Jahan spoke on the richness of Bangladeshi Baul music, which is comparable to the genre of Sufi music.
She added that art and culture transcend geographical boundaries and can create cultural link among people distanced by continents. The participation of Bangladesh in the “Sufi night” was therefore, important in bringing Bangladesh's cultural opulence to the Belgian audience.
The hour-long performance by Bangladeshi artistes was captivating. The large Bozar auditorium overflowed with a 1,500-strong audience.
