CURE impresses at Harvard National Model United Nations 2019
Harvard University recently organised the 65thedition of Harvard National Model United Nations, one of the oldest and most prestigious conferences of Model United Nations globally. Over 3000 delegates from 80 countries and 230 Harvard undergraduate staff members and students took part in this conference. Social Venture Challenge, a business ideation competition designed to inspire students to propose their solutions for pressing social issues around the world, was jointly organised by Resolution Project and Harvard University, at the conference. The panel of judges for the competition comprised of experts from Harvard University, Microsoft, Bank of America and other top organisations. CURE, a tech-based healthcare start-up company founded by three young entrepreneurs from Bangladesh, was announced as one of the top eight projects by the end of the programme.
Mahmudul Hassan Tonmoy, a computer science and engineering student from Independent University, Bangladesh, Ridwanul Arefin Arnob, a business major from Bangladesh University of Professionals and Sadman Sakib, a civil and environmental engineering student from Islamic University of Technology, are the founders of CURE. It was a matter of immense pride for the three of them to be able to represent Bangladesh at such a prestigious conference. CURE, which was initiated in 2018, was conceived with the aim of reducing any communication gaps between patients and doctors. One of the founders, Mahmudul, describes it as a virtual medical service that will be able to get people in contact with skilled doctors and also provide proper medicines from the nearest pharmacies, convenient diagnostic facilities and many other services.
"Most people in the rural areas of Bangladesh need to come to Dhaka frequently for medical check-ups. With CURE, we hope to provide them with access to any healthcare facility from all corners of the country," says Mahmudul. Last year, CURE made it to the top 50 list of projects at the International Young Innovators Summit. They won the Best Idea in Innovation award at the competition, held in Japan. This May, they have been invited to Malaysia to present their project in front of the current Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Bin Mohamad and other dignitaries.
