The annual Computer Science (CS) Fest of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) was held from November 27 to 29 and concluded with the Prize Giving Ceremony on December 1. This was an event which brought together all the departments of AIUB and was a great platform to connect with diverse people as it called for participation from schools and colleges all over Dhaka.  Since its initiation in 2012, CS Fest has been organised every year by AIUB Computer Club (ACC) and is one of the biggest events of AIUB. It all began with a dream to set a platform for AIUB students to spread out the light of technology, and a mission called – YOUR VISION, BROUGHT TO LIFE. This year, an array of competitions was organised, including for both the faculties of AIUB and students from different fields outside the university. Apart from competitions, there were various seminars on the importance of career counselling. Like the previous years, the seventh edition of the AIUB CS Fest hosted a myriad of events including app showcasing, poster presentations,  Robo Fight, Drone Racing Competition, Robo Soccer, Networking Contest, Programming Contest, ICT Olympiad, Mathematics Olympiad, story-writing contests and many other fun activities.

Around 64 teams participated in the app showcasing contest. Among them team ‘2 Takar Developer’ took the champion trophy in desktop category, team ‘X-HEUD’ got first place in web category and “Mockingbird” took the first position in the mobile category. 52 participants participated in the poster presentations.  Different schools and college students participated in project showcasing, photography contest, story writing and Math Olympiad. More than 250 students from different school and colleges of Dhaka registered for the events, and their enthusiasm was greatly appreciated by everyone. A team from Sir John Wilson School won the Project Showcasing competition in school/college category.Kaniz Fatema from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College became the champion in the Math Olympiad (School-College Category). In ICT Olympiad, the champion was Md  Munam Shahriar Sabir, Govt. Science College. CS Fest 2018 saw more than 2000 participants in various categories.

One of the new additions to the fest was the Robot fight. The winner of this event was decided by achieving points by either flippingthe opponent’s bot or pushing it away from its area. “ARG Infinity” was declared as the winner. Robot Soccer, one of the hyped competitions of the event took place on the last day in which more than 35 teams participated. Among them “ARG KILABYTES” became champion. Another new addition which made the fest more thrilling was the Drone Race Competition. Competitors had to fly their self-made drones to win the prize. On the ending day of the fest, winners were awarded certificates and crest by Prof Dr Tafazzal Hossain, Pro VC, and Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology at AIUB.

ACC organized 2-daylong seminars and workshops alongside the competitions to prepare students for today’s changing world by improving their knowledge and skills to meet the demands of employers and the realities of the workplace. Renowned people from companies likeDSI,Therap, Augmedix, Infolink, Pathao conducted these workshops The sponsors for the CS Fest were: THERAP, DSI, AUGMEDIX and INFOLINK INTERNET.
