Bangladesh Youth Delegation Visit to India: Part I
Travelling has always helped me grow as a person and broaden my perspective. As soon as I found out about High Commission of India's week-long cultural-exchange programme, Bangladesh Youth Delegation Visit to India, I knew I had to apply (also because it was fully funded!). I went there as a student to represent BRAC University. It was a team of 100 members and three students from BRAC University got shortlisted in the final list.
Our journey began on March 23, 2018, with Delhi. Delhi had at least one paneer item in each of the buffet menu. For me, Delhi is remembered for India Gate, the heritage sites we visited and our meeting with Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. We had a brief interaction with the PM, where we talked about our experience in India and he suggested us to drink plenty of water because of the dry weather in Delhi.
Fighting the scorching heat, the entire team maintained its schedule and visited places like Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, India Gate, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Mahatma Gandhi Digital Museum, Humayun's Tomb, Qutb Minar within four days of our visit in Delhi. While each and every place was unique in its own way, few absolutely stole my heart.
We visited Taj Mahal and Agra Fort on a Sunday, which is a weekend day in India. The expected crowd along with the burning sun could not lessen the beauty of Agra Fort. My favourite part of Agra Fort was the mosque inside of it called Nagina Masjid. Visitors have to take their shoes off before getting inside the white marble mosque and once you are inside, there is nothing but tranquility.
Even though I have seen numerous pictures of Taj Mahal in the past, through this trip I had the opportunity to know interesting facts from our tour guide. I could never imagine the amount of maintenance that is required to keep Taj Mahal the way it is. Every year, the entire Taj Mahal is bathed in Fuller's earth (commonly known as Multani Mitti), in order to beautify it.
On our last day in Delhi, we visited Humayun's Tomb. The Mughal Architecture left me in awe. Before we could get over the beauty of it, we arrived in Qutb Minar, whose each and every pillar is carved with a different set of design.
With histories carried in our hearts, we left for our next destination that is Mumbai.
