Recently WASA’s Managing Director (MD) claimed that the supply water is 100 percent drinkable, which of course caused a controversy and led to an immediate backlash. In many households, there is no question of drinking WASA-supplied water as it is contaminated and needs to be purified. The MD explained that the water gets polluted in the pipelines but there too, WASA is at fault because they installed the pipelines and it is their responsibility to maintain the network. If he himself drank the tap water that he is in charge of, and showed it to the public it would have created a positive impression among Dhaka dwellers. But he himself declined to drink the water when he was called out for his statement.
