In our country, crime rates are high and some get lots of media attention. But the way the overall system works starting from the crime scene to court proceedings and giving charge sheets is terribly time consuming, leading to huge pileups and backlogs of cases. As a result, many cases are either stalled or never come to a conclusion due to lack of evidence. For example, years have passed since the Holey Artisan attack and the Tonu murder, with no progress. Suspects issued subpoenas are never brought in due to politically influential backers. The public have no trust in the law and justice system and this can lead to a dangerous push to taking the law in their own hands.
