Lockdown withdrawn during Eid: Are we sacrificing the battle against Covid-19?
Even after two weeks of strict movement restrictions and social distancing regulations, 1,359 have died of Covid-19 in the last week, countrywide detection rate doubled to around 30% in last month, and 81.65% of Covid-dedicated ICU beds are now occupied. And now, the government has decided to put a one week break on lockdown.
The National Technical Advisory Committee expressed deep concerns about this decision and recommended 14 days' extension of the countrywide restrictions to control the worst Covid-19 surge ever.
Under the circumstances, can we celebrate Eid at peace or are we looking at an impending disaster in the form of further spike in transmission?
