Dhaka's 1st library at its last legs
Raja Rammohun Roy established the "Brahmo Sabha" in 1826 based on the Monotheism of Vedanta. Later it was renamed the "Brahma Samaj". In 1869, when the Brahma temple was being built, the then-current general secretary of the Shomaj Abhay Chandra Das established the Raja Rammohan Roy library; making it the first library of Dhaka.
The temple and the library located in Dhaka's Patuatuli were re-established in 1971 after it was looted and destroyed by the Pakistani army. However, it has been deteriorating over time.
Today's Star News+ is based on the report published in The Daily Star on the dilapidated condition of the first library in Dhaka.
