What can Bangladesh’s climate refugees expect from COP26?
A World Bank report, published in September this year, has estimated that by 2050 as much as 13.3 million Bangladeshis can become climate refugees.
What was a concern in the speculation of scientists, in the data and research reports -- adverse effects of global climate change is now starting to become a reality for the coastal people of Bangladesh. The coastal regions are now facing growing high salinity induced scarcity of agricultural lands, alarmingly increased erosions, more frequent and more severe tropical storms -- with many becoming one of the first climate refugees.
