The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has claimed that the country will host the upcoming SAFF Championship in June, in a social media post yesterday.

The post, which came following an executive committee meeting of the South Asian Football Federation in Kathmandu, said that FFSL president Jaswar Umar, who was at the meeting, confirmed the hosting.

The social media post said that Sri Lanka's bid was accepted in the meeting, meaning the island nation will host the regional event for the first time since 2008, when it had hosted alongside Maldives.

There hasn't been any confirmation of this from the SAFF though, which said that the biennial event will be held at a centralised venue, but the date and venue will be revealed soon.

Bangladesh Football Federation general secretary Imran Hossain, who attended the meeting virtually from Bangladesh, said that India and Sri Lanka are the two likely hosts of the event while Bangladesh's bid was not approved due to the political situation in the country as well as the lack of a suitable venue.
