Bashundhara Kings’ inspirational forward Daniel Colindres termed the side’s Federation Cup success as total teamwork despite scoring both goals in their 2-1 win over Rahmatganj in the final yesterday.

“This was teamwork, not only my work. The players on and off the pitch, the coaches and the management staff all worked very well,” said the Costa Rican, who had also scored one of the three goals in their semifinal against Bangladesh Police.

“We are very happy because we played really well to become champions which we missed last year. I’m very glad that we take the Federation Cup trophy to our club,” the 34-year-old forward said. “It is a big inspiration for us before starting the league and AFC Cup because we want to fight in the league and AFC Cup and want to progress step by step.”

Last season Colindres played as a winger, but this time he was shifted to striker’s position. However, Colindres believes he is stronger as a winger but can also play as a number nine.

“I don’t like to score goals or make assists. I like to contribute to the team. I’m glad that the teamwork is going well,” said Colindres, who was named the best player of the tournament.

Bashundhara Kings coach Oscar Bruzon praised the spirit of Rahmatganj, but believes the better side won the final.

“We played very well according to our plan and Bashundhara were a team, who had been in commanding position on the pitch and created more chances than Rahmatganj,” said Bruzon, who last season guided the team to league and Independence Cup titles.

“I can only praise them Rahmatganj. Last season they tried to play defensive football but this time their coach tried to play 50-50 and they did not wait for us, they tried to press hard from the first minute. It was an exciting match but we won as the better side.”

Rahmatganj coach Syed Golam Jilani was proud of taking the team into a tournament final for the first time.

“We don’t have any regret, but we made mistakes to give away both goals to the best team of the tournament. I’m satisfied with the performance of the boys. I believe playing the Federation Cup final will make Rahmatganj proud because it is the first time we played the final of any tournament,” said Jilani.
