'We can beat BD and SA'
The Namibia Under-19 team, after winning their opening match against Scotland Under-19s by nine wickets at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, issued a warning yesterday to hosts Bangladesh.
The in-form home team won their first game against defending champions South Africa and it is believed that their next two games against two unfancied opponents would be an easy sail but Namibia coach Rangarirai Manyande reminded the reporters after his team's success against Scotland that 'anything can happen in cricket and we also have the chance to qualify'.
“We can beat Bangladesh and can even beat South Africa. You saw today we played as a unit. Soccer and Rugby are the most popular games in our country and you know we have two players who also play rugby. We don't have a professional setup for cricket but there is interest in the game and these boys are very keen to play good cricket, so you cannot dismiss us,” he added.
Namibia Under-19 bowlers dismissed their Scottish counterparts for 159 after which their top-order batsmen chased down the target in 26 overs with nine wickets in hand.
Bangladesh Under-19s will play their second group match against Scotland Under-19s tomorrow and the last group A match against Namibia on February 2 at the same venue.
