Tigresses’ T20 WC rut continues
Bangladesh suffered a third consecutive defeat in the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup, this time by a comprehensive 71-run margin against New Zealand in Cape Town on Friday.
The Tigresses continued their dismal run in the flagship event after ending up on 118 for eight after 20 overs while chasing a daunting 190 posted by the Kiwis.
Apart from two thirties from Murshida Khatun and Shorna Akter, none of the Bangladesh batters were able to make an impact as Nigar Sultana and Co kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Off-spinner Eden Carson picked up three, having conceded 18 runs from her four overs, while Hanna Rowe bagged two wickets for New Zealand.
Earlier, New Zealand posted a huge total of 189 for three in 20 overs, riding on Suzi Bates' blistering and unbeaten 81-run knock off just 61 balls, featuring seven fours and a six.
Opener Bernadine Bezuidenhout smashed a quick-fire 44 off 26 balls, striking five fours, while Maddy Green remained not out on 44 off just 20 deliveries.
Maddy along with Bates went on to add an unbeaten 82-run stand for the fourth-wicket as New Zealand went on to post the highest total by any side in the format this year.
Nigar Sultana Joty and her troop will be searching for their first win in the T20 World Cup since 2014 when they take on South Africa on February 21 in their last group stage encounter of the tournament.
