Tamim, Liton depart after decent start by Tigers

Bangladesh could not make the best of the early momentum gained as openers Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal departed inside the first Powerplay in their first of three ODIs against England at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.

Liton, the first one to fall, was trapped in front by Chris Woakes in the fifth over after a good length delivery that held its line and hit the right-hander on the pads. Liton played for some inward movement but the scrambled-seam delivery kept slightly straight, enough to miss the bat -- as shown in the review taken by Bangladesh.

Tamim, meanwhile, was rushed by a trademark Mark Wood delivery that clocked at 149kph. Introduced in the 10th over, Wood had an immediate impact as his quick short ball that nipped in towards the left-hander off the seam took Tamim by surprise as he failed to defend it. The ball, after an inside edge, went on to rattle the Tigers' ODI skipper's stumps. Tamim walked back after a 32-ball 23, laced with four boundaries.

Despite losing two wickets, Bangladesh managed to get 54 on the board after the first Powerplay and would be happy with the way they started.

However, earlier, apparently, the England seamers were struggling to find their rhythm, with Jofra Archer already overstepping twice in the game.

Tamim got off the mark by putting away the first no-ball from Archer through the leg side for a boundary before hitting the right-arm quick for another four to plunder 12 off his first over.

Tamim, however, was dropped on 2 in the very first over by Chris Woakes. The left-handed batter pushed a fuller length delivery outside off and due to lack of timing on it, the ball carried low to the bowler who failed to catch it on his follow through.

Liton, just the ball before getting dismissed, hoicked Woakes for a six over square leg and looked to be getting into the rhythm.
