Saikat threatens to quit domestic umpiring over Hridoy fiasco

Bangladesh's only umpire in the ICC Elite Panel, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, has threatened to quit domestic umpiring scene over alleged inconsistencies in the handling of Mohammedan captain Towhid Hridoy's ban.
Hridoy served a one-match ban following his altercation with on-field umpires Tanvir Ahmed and Saikat during a DPL match against Abahani. He later got another three demerit points for criticism of umpires and was slated to be suspended for two matches. Hridoy, however, returned in the lineup against Agrani Bank after serving only one-game ban, sparking questions over how his suspension was reduced.
CCDM technical committee was not interested in reducing the two-match suspension it was to impose on Hridoy. Match referee Enamul Haque Moni resigned from his duties as convener of the technical committee and according to sources, the circumstances relating to Hridoy's suspension was the reason behind his resignation. The resignation of convener is understood to have delayed Hridoy's second sentence of three demerit points from coming into effect.
Saikat, too, appears to be frustrated by how the entire situation. A sanction table change memo was sent by the umpires' committee to CCDM, where it cited that seven demerit points will equate to a one-match suspension from now on, instead of the two-match suspension which was being followed as per BCB's Code of Conduct till now. The umpires' department, however, should not be responsible for such issues as it's the responsibility of the technical committee.
"Yes he [Saikat] has given an ultimatum. He wants to resign and even wanted to hand in the letter," a BCB source said.
