Mushfiqur celebrates surpassing Mashrafe
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim on Friday celebrated playing the most number of ODIs for Bangladesh by surpassing former ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who had previously held the record.
Mushfiqur in fact achieved the feat when he stepped onto the field to play his 219th ODI for Bangladesh in the first of the three-match series against the West Indies in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Mashrafe played a total of 220 ODIs in his career. The former ODI skipper had, however, played 218 of those in Bangladesh colors while playing two ODIs for Asia XI against Africa XI in 2007.
However, Mushfiqur celebrated the occasion on Friday after having played the 220th ODI for Bangladesh, which they won by seven wickets to clinch the series with a match to spare.
"Alhamdulillah and thanks to all my teammates for the wonderful gesture. This is the highest number of ODI appearances so far for Bangladesh passing the legend MASHRAFE VAI," Mushfiqur wrote on his official Facebook page with a video of him celebrating the occasion by cutting a cake with his teammates.
Only two other players have played more than 200 ODIs for Bangladesh. Tamim Iqbal has played 209 ODIs while Shakib Al Hasan has played 208 ODIs.
