Newly appointed Proteas head coach Mark Boucher stated that he would welcome back Kolpak players and retired star batsman AB de Villiers.

Boucher, who has taken over till 2023, vowed to get South Africa back to winning ways. News broke during the 2019 World Cup that AB de Villiers had made himself available. The news had come after South Africa’s third defeat in the campaign and led to public outcry over De Villiers’ omission.

Boucher was willing to discuss with a few of the players including AB and try to iron out issues with them.

"When you go to a World Cup, you want your best players playing for you," Boucher was quoted as saying by sport24.

"If you feel like he [De Villiers] is one of your best players than why wouldn't I want to have conversations with them to see where we maybe go?

"I might have a few conversations with quite a few players and see where they are. Like I said, you want your best players in the World Cup and if there are a couple of issues that needs to be ironed out... if it's for the best of South Africa to try and win us a World Cup, then absolutely, let's try and do it,” he concluded.
