Time to resist these perpetrators: Tigers deliver social message
"It's now time to come together and socially resist these monsters and unmask them," Bangladesh's star cricketer Mahmudullah Riyad said as the top cricketers combined to deliver a powerful social message to bring an end to rape.
After the incident of a Noakhali woman being gang-raped and being filmed sparked outrage across the country, rape has once again come to the forefront of national discourse. From the likes Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan to Rubel Hossain, a number of national cricketers had already spoken out against rape.
Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim and Soumya Sarkar came together to deliver a video message today in order to raise social awareness.
"For the last few days, in several parts of the country, there have been grave abuse of our sisters and I am heartbroken. Respect women and become a true human being," Mushfiqur said.
"Let's prove ourselves as human beings and learn to respect women," Test captain Mominul Haque said.
"Think about your own family members who are women and come forward to ensure the safety of every women in the country," ODI captain Tamim said.
In line with the theme of respect, Soumya said: "Respect women and become a human to be admired."
