‘Best to stay at home if we want to watch sports again’
Bangladesh paceman Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said in a Facebook post that the best thing to do right now is to stay home so that people can once again enjoy sports.
Sports all over the world have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The English Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Champions League -- all popular in the region -- have been closed down for an indefinite period while cricket series and domestic tournaments have also come to a halt.
If the virus situation escalates, they will likely be no sports activities anywhere until it is safe to do so. While people have been missing out on watching sports, the depth of the situation has not yet dawned upon the general populace who still go out and meet in public either for work or even for leisure, unaware of proper self-distancing measures in public.
The scenario will only see the virus escalate. Mashrafe warned that people needed to stay home to get their freedom back.
"If we want to get back our freedom of watching sports again, then the best thing is still to be at home," the former ODI captain urged on Facebook. There was no remedy except self-isolation in order to stop the virus from spreading.
Cricket has been put on hold for an indefinite period in the country. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan told The Daily Star on March 29 that they were going to exercise extreme caution before even considering playing cricket. He had suggested that there would be no likelihood of discussing cricket until May.
