‘Bangladesh’s biggest star? Never felt that way’
The Bangladesh Test and T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan reached new levels during the recently-concluded World Cup, creating new records that will go down in the annals of Bangladesh cricket. The all-rounder however was not keen to recongnise himself as the Tigers' biggest star.
"I don't think of those things. I have never played while thinking on those terms. It's the first time I pondered this after you have mentioned it," the Tigers' Test skipper said while talking to reporters yesterday night at an event.
Shakib is part of Bangladesh's Big Five, ones who carry and lead the team. During the World Cup, reports surfaced of a rift between Shakib and Riyad. During practice today, both were seen smiling and joking with each other, which would suggest that the matter was put to bed from both sides.
Shakib also talked about the focus of winning every match. He said that whatever team the Tigers play, the aim should always be to win. Asked last night about whether new players will be handed opportunities against Afghanistan, Shakib said: "All teams take the field to win be it a big team or a small one or if there are new faces in the team or not. Whenever any team prepares for a series or a match, they do not think that they are going with the intention to test new players. A team takes everything into account but at the end of the day the target remains the same -- to win the game."
