Woman kills daughter

A two-year-old girl was killed allegedly by her mentally challenged mother at Solaimanpur village in Kotchandpur upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Sumyia Lhatun, daughter of Joynal Uddin of the village. Police said Rafeza Khatun was mentally challenged and she strangled her daughter around 4:00am. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, said officer in-charge Mizanur Rahman of Kotchandpur police station.

Man to die for killing wife

A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2007. The convict is Mojibur Rahman, son of Abdul Jabbar of Chandigor Rajpara village in Durgapur upazila. He is still absconding. According to the prosecution, Mojibur beat up his wife Rokeya mercilessly, leaving her dead for dowry on April 29, 2007.  Later, Abdul Jalil, elder brother of Rokeya, filed a murder case with Durgapur Police Station.

BSF picks up youth

Members of BSF picked up a Bangladeshi youth from Nonaganj camp area in India early yesterday. The victim is Zakir Hossain, 25, son of Abdur Rahman, Mandol of Chapatala village in Moheshpur upazila. He might be a cattle trader, said Lt Col SM Moniruzzaman, commander of BGB-6. A BSF team caught Zakir when he entered into the area to bring his cattle. A letter was sent to Indian Border Security Force to return Zakir, said the commander.

 

18 crude bombs seized

Police seized 18 hand made bombs from a mango orchard in Kallayanpur area of the town on Tuesday night. On secret information, police raided the area and seized the bombs. However, none was arrested in this connection, said Jasim Uddin, officer in-charge of Sadar police station.
