MercenarieZ clan presents the Bangladesh PUBG Showdown 2018
PUBG, otherwise known as Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is a popular first-person shooter battle royale game that took the world by storm. Since its initial release in 2017, the player count in the game has reached as high as 2 million active players. Considering its popularity both here and abroad, MercenarieZ clan presented the "Bangladesh PUBG Showdown 2018" from October 25, 2018. The tournament, sponsored by Zotac Gaming and UCC BD, saw the active participation of 20 teams, with each team having a squad of 4 players and 2 substitutes. The total prize pool of the tournament peaked at BDT 28000, where the first placeholders were to receive BDT 10000.
While the whole aspect of it may seem exciting and fun, organising a PUBG tournament can be rather painful as you'd be having to deal with 80 individual players. Ensuring that every player is in the lobby, teams are ready, and set to go on time require an immense amount of detail and attention; fair play is maintained and no team is mistakenly or accidentally penalised for poor organising decisions. The tournament was hosted under the PGI (PUBG Global Invitation) rule set so, familiarising some of the players (who don't happen to follow the professional scene) was also a task that needed attending to. The tournament was hosted on custom server provided by PUBG. Hopefully, this tournament was the first of many and with further gaining of popularity and scaling of the tournament, it'll enable us to have an access to an official tournament server that will resolve us of many of these problems.
The tournament concluded on November 2. The two maps, Erangel and Miramar were played according to the PGI format. The end of the tournament saw Red Viperz Gaming take the first spot with the biggest summation of kill and placement points. The second spot was claimed by China Numba 1, winning BDT 6000 and the third spot by the host MercenarieZ themselves, winning BDT 4000. The player of the tournament also received a TT ESPORTS Meka Pro keyboard.
The prize-giving ceremony took place on November 23, 2018. Special thanks to Zotac Gaming and UCC BD for realising the potential that PUBG holds in the local scene and the scope that the game has in the local and international e-sports scene.
