NSU hosts workshop on remote sensing to prevent water-related diseases
A 3-day workshop on remote sensing of water-related diseases, particularly focusing on cholera, was held in North South University from August 19 - 21, 2017. This workshop is part of an ongoing research project funded through National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with two local institutes from Bangladesh (ICDDR,B and North South University).
The research team comprising Dr. Rita Colwell and Dr. Anwar Huq (University of Maryland, USA); Dr. Antar Jutla (West Virginia University, USA); Dr. Ali S Akanda (University of Rhode Island, USA); Dr. Sonia Aziz (Moravian College, USA) in association with local investigators Dr. GU Ahsan (North South University, Bangladesh) and Dr. Munirul Alam (ICDDR,B) are working to develop a cholera warning system using remote sensing data. The goal of this workshop was to promote the use of earth observations in public health decisions, from strengthening prevention efforts and generating disease awareness to water and sanitation management.
IUBAT student participates in international youth camp in Korea
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) student Istak Ahmed Abir participated in the "Bridge to the World (BTW)" international youth camp organised by RCE (Regional Centre of Expertise) in Tongyeong, Republic of Korea. The youth camp held from July 24 to August 5, 2017 was an ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) programme.
During the camp youth fellows learned about global citizenship, discussed issues and themes related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and shared their experiences on sustainable development from their own countries. They shared the problem and reached for solutions during the camp. At the end of the programme, participants prepared a co-write for "Youth Declaration for a Sustainable Society" and shared it publicly.
It is to be mentioned that RCE Greater Dhaka, a United Nations University-mandated regional centre of expertise hosted by IUBAT University, has been working for Education for Sustainable Development since 2011. The organization has been promoting sustainable education among students and youths locally and regionally.
"Be the CHAMP" takes place in Chittagong
Lights Foundation and Young Steps jointly organised an event on interpersonal skill development and career grooming session titled "Be the CHAMP", which was conducted by Solaiman Shukhon on August 9, 2017 at The Peninsula Chittagong. It was attended by 500 participants from different educational institutions of the port city.
Officials from Young Steps and Lights Foundation were present during the session and gave introductory speeches. This was followed by an interactive session conducted by the celebrated speaker Shukhon, where he explained the concept of personal branding, responsibilities as a student, preparations one needs to take to join corporate houses, art of writing CVs, interview hacks and so on.
The event was supported by Southern University, Dakhina, Radio Today, Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College and DoubleZero Digital. The Daily Star was the youth engagement partner of the event.
BUBT holds workshop on business education
The workshop on "Quality Assurance in Tertiary Level Business Education and Team Building for Self-Assessment", organised by the Self Assessment Committee of the Department of Business Administration, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), was held on August 19, 2017 at its Campus-2 in Mirpur, Dhaka. Faculty members of the department of Business Administration of BUBT attended the workshop.
Prof. Dr. M. Muhibur Rahman, former Member of UGC, conducted the workshop as keynote speaker and chief guest. Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT, inaugurated the workshop and mentioned the programme as part of a continuous effort to materialise the vision of the university to bring quality higher education to the doorsteps of the common people of the society. Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Miah, Tresurer; Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor; and Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business was present at the programme.
UIU holds IT Job Fair 2017
Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department of United International University (UIU) organised the "UIU IT Job Fair 2017" on August 18, 2017 in association with Center for Development of IT Professionals (CDIP), UIU Cisco Networking Academy and Career Counseling Center (CCC) of UIU.
The objective of this job fair was to increase employment opportunities for UIU graduates and offer wider choice for selection to the recruiters. In association with this job fair, a half-day workshop titled "IT Career Guidance" was organised on July 29, 2017. Final semester students of the CSE department participated in this workshop, where they received training on CV writing and tips on job interviews. Companies including Synesis IT Ltd., BRAC IT Services Ltd., MF Asia Ltd., SELISE rokin' software, Nascenia IT, DataSoft Systems BD Ltd., Ergo Ventures Limited, Edusoft Consultants Ltd., ReliSource, etc. participated in the job fair. BASIS President, Mustafa Jabbar was the chief guest of the inauguration ceremony. During the job fair, a number of written and oral interviews, and different seminars were held. The programme concluded with a panel discussion.
DIU organises Take Off Programming Competition 2017
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Daffodil International University (DIU) organised Take Off Programming Competition Summer 2017 on August 13, 2017 at CSE building, DIU. Student of first and second semesters of CSE Department and Software Engineering (SWE) Department were the participants. Prof. Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain, Head, Department of CSE was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman, Associate Professor (Adjunct), Department of CSE; Shah Md. Tanvir Siddiquee, Senior Lecturer, Department of CSE; Mahmud Sajjad Abeer, Vice President, Computer and Programming Club; and student Muhaiminul Islam Zim were also present at the prize giving ceremony. Fuad Hasan became champion while Md. Jubaer Hossain became 1st runner up, and M. Imamul Hassan Khan became 2nd runner up in the competition.
