- Bangladesh government resumes pension for the eminent rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam after Pakistani administration halts it. In the poet’s Kolkata residence, High Commissioner of independent Bangladesh in India M Hossain Ali gives a cheque of Rs 2,100 to the poet.
- From the Rawalpindi President’s Palace, a decree is issued: President Yahya announces general mercy to all who made any ‘mistakes’ in East Pakistan during the period between March 1 and September 5. It is applicable for all, including armed force members, EPR, police, Mujahid and Ansar.
