Eminent individuals today formed a citizen body to investigate genocide in Myanmar's Rakhine that has led to exodus of over 520,000 Rohingya refugees.

The "Citizen's Commission for Investigating Genocide and Terrorism in Burma", formed with 35 members, was declared in a press conference this morning.

Former justice of the Supreme Court's Appellate Division Shamsul Huda will be leading the commission. Former Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik will be its member secretary.

The commission will be holding its first meeting and arrange its course of action within a week, Justice Shamsuddin said in the press conference held at Jatiya Press Club.

According to their plan, the committee will be visiting the Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar within a month and publish their findings report within the next four months.

Replying to a query, Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee President Shahriar Kabir said that the commission will visit Rakhine if the governments of Bangladesh and Myanmar permit.
