Robbers kill college girl, injure two in B'baria
A college girl was killed and two others were injured in an attack by a gang of robbers during a robbery incident at Islamabad village in Sarail upazila of the district early yesterday.
The deceased, Ratna Akter, 19, daughter of Osman Mia of the village, was a first-year BBA (Hons) student at Islampur Degree College.
Police quoted deceased family members as saying that a gang of armed robbers entered the house by cutting grills of a window and kept the house members hostage at gunpoint.
Later, the gang looted gold ornaments, mobile phones sets and other valuables from the house.
The gang attacked Ratna and two of her family members when Ratna cried for held from another room of the house. They stabbed her in the head, chest and stomach and fled the scene along with the booties.
Ratna succumbed to her injuries on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while the injured, including her father Osman Mia, were undergoing treatment at Sarail Upazila Health Complex.
Being informed, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Contacted, Mohammad Abdul Haque, officer in-charge (investigation) of Sadar Police Station, said they have already arrested four people for their alleged involvement in the robbery.
UNB adds: Robbers looted valuables from a house at Tirashi village in Dakkhin Surma upazila on early Friday.
Locals said a gang of robbers stormed into the house of Delwar Mia at the village at around 4:30am and tied up three family members.
They looted Tk3 lakh, three tolas of gold ornaments and three mobile phone sets from the house.
Two people, including Afsa Begum, 47, and Sumaiya, 15, were injured as they tried to resist the gang. Being informed, police rushed in and chased the robbers. They, however, managed to flee with the booties.
