'Robber' killed in 'gunfight' with police

A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with police in Monirampur upazila early yesterday.
Two policemen were injured during the incident. They are constables Nazrul Islam and Prabir Kumar.
The deceased was identified as Osman Dofadar, 35, son of Azibor Dofadar of Hasadanga village in the upazila.
Officer in-charge of Monirampur police station Mollah Khobir Uddin said, on secret information, police arrested Osman at the village on Saturday noon.
According to his confessional statement, they went to nearby Aminpur graveyard with Osman and recovered a locally made gun and two bullets.
While the police team was returning, cohorts of Osman fired 3/4 bullets from a hideout near the graveyard.
In retaliation, police opened fire. Osman died in the crossfire while the rest managed to flee the scene, police said.
