Road accidents kill 14, injure 47 in 8 districts
Fourteen people were killed and 47 others injured in road accidents in Narayanganj, Tangail, Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Dinajpur, Gaibandha, Rangpur and Brahmanbaria Tuesday and yesterday.
Our Narayanganj correspondent reports, four people were killed instantly and 25 others injured as a bus overturned after hitting a road divider on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Tribardi area of Sonargaon upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were Alok Mian, 45, Jony, 30, the bus helper of Munshiganj; Parul Begum, 24, wife of Fazar Ali of Comilla; and Hasan, 28, said Sonargaon police.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals.
Our Tangail correspondent reports, three motorcyclists were killed as a bus hit their bike on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Achhimtola in Mirzapur upazila yesterday afternoon, said police.
Rokon, 15, and Sohel, 16, were class X students of Kurni High School in the upazila; and another schoolboy Selim, 16, was their friend.
A Bagerhat correspondent reports, two motorcyclists, including a local Jatiyatabadi Chhattra Dal leader, died as an oncoming bus hit the bike on Khulna-Mongla highway in Lokhpur area of Fakirhat upazila Tuesday night.
The deceased were Kawsar Ahmed, 29, son of Hashem Sheikh of Mongla municipal area and acting president of JDC Mongla College unit; and Biplob Hossain, 28, son of Momtaj Uddin of Shelabunia in Mongla.
Our Chuadanga correspondent adds, a motorcyclist was killed and his two co-riders were injured when the motorbike collided with a human hauler on Chuadanga-Alamdanga road near Chuadanga Primary Teachers' Training Institute in sadar upazila Tuesday night.
The deceased was Abul Kalam, 32, son of Shahadat Hossain of Sarshadanga Purbopara village in the upazila.
Sharif, 28, and Nizam, 25, were rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, a bicyclist boy died as a human hauler hit him in the town yesterday.
The victim was Md Ratul Islam, 12, son of Rahmat Ali.
Our Gaibandha correspondent adds, Kakoli, a class VI student of Kazipara Girls High School, was killed and around six other students were injured as a battery-run three-wheeler carrying them was hit by a human hauler from the opposite direction at Boalia in Gobindaganj yesterday.
The injured were taken to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile, at least 14 students of Kamaldaha Girls' High School were injured as a human hauler carrying them was hit by an oncoming bus at Panthapara in the upazila.
They were rushed to the upazila health complex.
Our Rangpur correspondent adds, an SSC candidate died as a motorbike he was riding collided head-on with a battery-run three-wheeler at Swadhinata intersection in Pirgachha upazila yesterday morning.
Shariful Islam, 16, son of Montu Mian of Kaliganj-Bottala village, was a student of JN High School.
Our Brahmanbaria correspondent adds, a girl was suffocated by a scarf which got entangled with a wheel of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw she was travelling in on Nabinagar-Companiganj road at Shamogram in Nabinagar upazila Tuesday afternoon.
Bhithi Akter, 12, daughter of Babul Mia of Baniachang in the upazila, was a class VI student of Mohini Kishur High School.
