RMG workers in Fatullah stage demo for Eid bonuses, arrears

Workers of two textile mills in Narayanganj's Fatullah upazila today staged demonstrations in front of their factories demanding that their Eid bonuses and pending salaries be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Around 10,000 workers of Shah Fateh Ullah Textile Mills and Jalal Haji Spinning Mills gathered in front of their factories around 7:00am demanding payment of Eid bonus and salaries, reports our correspondent quoting workers.

The workers became agitated and started demonstrating in front of the main gate when the owners announced that they would pay 60 per cent of their salaries and that there will be no bonuses, alleged the workers.

"An attack was carried out during our demonstration by the owners' men, leaving eight to 10 of our workers injured," a worker said on condition of anonymity.

Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, inspector of Narayanganj Industrial Police-4.

He said he was not aware of any attack. "Additional police personnel were deployed on the factories to avert any unwanted incident," he said.
