Rab needs reforms: Hanif
A spokesperson of the ruling party today said the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) needs to be reformed to overcome its weaknesses.
"It is beyond question to disband the Rab. But its reform can be done," Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said at his business office in the capital's Karwan Bazar.
Hanif's comment came when BNP and several human rights organisations have been calling for disbanding the elite force following several allegations of its members' involvement in abductions, forced disappearances and killings.
"They (BNP and human rights organisations) can come up with specific proposals to reform the force," Hanif said.
The AL leader also praised the role of the elite force in controlling terrorism and militancy across the country.
Bangladesh will continue good relationship with the government of Bharatiya Janata Party, the party comes to power, Hanif said when asked about the relationship between the two parties.
