Two factions of Awami League locked into a scuffle at Laldighi ground just before the council of the party’s Chattogram district north unit began there this morning.
AL's Chattogram district north unit was scheduled to start its triennial council on the ground around 10:00am, reports our correspondent from the spot.
According to the witnesses, the supporters of Gias Uddin, former upazila chairman of Mirsarai upazila, and Ataur Ataur Rahman Ata, former president of Mirsarai upazila Awami League, went to Laldighi ground in processions to attend the council in the morning.
But when the duo along with their supporters was entering the venue, they locked into an altercation with each other, which led to the scuffle.
They also threw plastic chairs at each other during the scuffle, the witnesses said.
At one-point, the party’s senior leaders brought the situation under control with the help of police.
Around 11:15am, AL presidium member and lawmaker Mosharraf Hossain went to the venue and inaugurated the daylong council.
