Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today brought a resolution under section 147 of the rules of procedure of Jatiya Sangsad, paving the way for discussion on the political life, works and philosophy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to mark Mujib Borsho.

After a 15-minute recess following President Abdul Hamid's speech, proceedings of the House sitting started again today.

While placing the resolution, PM Hasina described various aspects of Bangabandhu's life and works and his sacrifice for the Bangalee nation.

This is the first time any prime minister has brought any resolution in parliament for discussion, sources at the parliament secretariat told The Daily Star.

Usually, the chief whip of parliament or any senior lawmaker brings proposals under section 147 for holding general discussions in the House on any important or public interest issues.

But considering the significance of the issue, the prime minister herself placed the resolution in the House, said the sources.

After the resolution was placed in the JS, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, who was presiding over the session, urged Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Qauder, also the minister for Roads, Transport and Bridges, to take part in the discussion.

Several lawmakers, including Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haq, Home Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, ruling AL MPs Col (retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan, Asaduzzaman Noor and Simeen Hussain (Rimi), and Gonoforum MP Sultan Muhammed Mansur Ahmed, among others, took part in the discussion.

Discussion on the resolution will be held for four days. Later, the resolution will be passed in the House.
