Municipality elections: Councillor candidate gets food cooked for 2,500 people at polling station in Kushtia
A councillor candidate supposedly had food cooked for at least 2,500 people while voting was underway in Kushtia municipality today.
The food was cooked at Barkhada Government Boys Primary School polling station, arranged by Rabiul Islam Robi, councilor candidate of ward 13 in Kushtia municipality, said witnesses.
Nearly 1,000 packets of food were distributed among the voters before a mobile court raided the spot this afternoon, our Kushtia correspondent reports, quoting witnesses.
When the news broke on social media, a mobile court raided the place around 3pm and seized 10 cooking pots -- containing food for at least 1,500 packets -- and 100 food packets at the side.
The seized food was distributed among orphans, said Executive Magistrate Ishak Ali, who led the drive.
No action, however, was taken against the councillor candidate, added our Kushtia correspondent.
When contacted, Rabiul said he had food cooked for his agents and staff, not voters.
