BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today voiced concern over detention of Hummam Chowdhury, son of executed war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

Terming his detention as outcome of the “extreme deterioration” of country’s rule of law, Fakhrul said the government is obliterating people’s fundamental rights and democratic norms.

“An arrest spree is prevailing as the government has become crazy in its politics of vengeance,” Fakhrul said.

Common people as well as the leader and activists of opposition political parties are anxious over security of their lives and goods, he said.

Fakhrul demanded immediate unconditional release of Hummam, son of executed war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, who was a standing committee member of BNP.

Hummam was detained by detectives when he along with his mother Farhat Quader Chowdhury was going to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court (CMM) to attend a hearing yesterday.
