Obaidul donates book royalty to arson victims
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today donated the royalty he got for his two books to arson victims of the current political unrest.
The minister donated total Tk 5.40 lakh to 54 victims while visiting the burn unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital this morning.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Of the amount, Obaidul got Tk 5 lakh as royalty for his books – “Gangchil” and “Jibon Smriti” – published during the just concluded Ekushey Boi Mela (book fair).
As there were 54 victims, the minister added Tk 40,000 to the royalty so that the victims get Tk 10,000 each.
“It’s a minor contribution to the victims,” the minister said after distributing the money.
The minister also requested others to come forward in the aid of arson victims.
The minister condemned the firebomb attacks during the ongoing hartals and blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
