Chittagong Medical College was closed sine die yesterday hours after a dental student was beaten to death allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists.
The victim is Abidur Rahman, 22, a third year student of the college.
Following the incident, the college authorities suspended the activities of student organisations and Chittagong Medical College Students' Union.
The students left the dormitories by 7:30am after an emergency meeting of the authorities late Friday night ordered them to vacate the halls.
CMC Principal Prof Selim Md Jahangir said they issued the order to avoid any further probable violence.
Panchlaish police suspect Abidur to be a BCL activist.
However, General Secretary of college unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Forhad Ahmed claimed the deceased to be one of their activists.
Abidur died at 8:30pm on Friday giving in to the wound allegedly inflicted by some BCL activists on Wednesday.
An uneasy calm was prevailing on and around the campus when filing this report last evening.
