Noakhali BNP chief Shahjahan held

Former BNP lawmaker from Noakhali Md Shahjahan was detained from Dhaka’s Gulshan area early today over allegations of hatching conspiracy against the government.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) held him along with an associate from a Gulshan-1 house around 4:30am, said Maj Md Rumman, deputy director of Rab’s legal and media wing.
Shahjahan, central joint secretary general and president of Noakhali BNP, was held ahead of today’s hartal (shutdown) of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP.
The hartal, called in Dhaka and 13 adjoining districts, was called on top of BNP-led 20-party alliance’s non-stop blockade programme that entered seventh day today.
