7 hurt as BCL, Jubo League clash in Nilphamari

Four activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in a factional clash at Barisal Polytechnic Institute yesterday.
The injured were identified as Nazrul, 4th year student of electronics department; Sabuj and Riazul, 3rd year student of mechanical engineering department and Subir, 2nd year student of the same department.
Campus sources said the two and a half hours long clash erupted at around 11:45am as the supporters of BCL magazine secretary Imran Hossain Mishu hit Nazrul, a supporter of BCL president Abdur Razzak, with a sharp weapon.
Within moments the two factions locked in a fierce clash using lethal weapons including firearms.
The injured were rushed to the Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.
Contacted, principal Mir Mosharaff Hossain blamed the BCL chief for the clash saying he was staying on the campus although his studentship expired and creating chaos.
In Nilphamari, at least seven people were injured as activists of Chhattra League and Jubo League clashed in the district town over a trivial matter yesterday.
Of the injured two were admitted to local hospital, reports our correspondent.
Eye-witnesses said the motorbike of Jubo League leader Ripon Ahmed accidentally hit from behind Nahidul Islam Nixon, former vice president of Nilphamari government college students' union and Chhattra League leader, at the gate of Nilphamari branch of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank at noon in the new market area of the town.
At this both of them engaged in a scuffle. Later a clash erupted between the supporters of the two leaders. Both Ripon and Nixon were admitted to the district hospital as they were critically injured.
After a while a large number of activists of Chhattra League and Jubo League engaged in a fresh clash in Chowrongi and New Market area of the town which continued for about an hour.
During the clash five more people including BCL district unit general secretary Wadud Rahman and deputy cultural secretary Naeem Islam, were injured.
