Youth held for abducting girl

Police arrested a youth from Kuripara village in Muktagachha upazila early Sunday, for his alleged involvement in kidnapping a teenage girl from Harirampur village on January 31.

The arrestee, Rubel Mia, 25, is a human hauler driver, and son of Shahid Mia of Dullah village in the upazila. Law enforcers arrested him from Kuripara village around 5:00am.

Quoting the victim's family members, police said Rubel forcibly picked up a 19-year-old girl from in front of her house in the evening of January 31.

Victim's elder brother lodged a case with Muktagachha Police Station the following day, accusing Rubel, Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim, officer-in-charge of the police station, said.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of one of Rubel's relatives on February 4 and rescued the girl.

Police produced the arrestee before a Mymensingh court on Sunday afternoon. The court sent him to the jail.
