Kajol appointed special public prosecutor for cases

The government has appointed Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, a lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Commission, as the special public prosecutor for August 21 grenade attack cases.

Talking to The Daily Star yesterday, Kajol, acting chief public prosecutor of the ACC, said, “The law ministry informed me last night about the appointment.”

Kajol will assist Chief Public Prosecutor Syed Rezaur Rahman for quick disposal of the cases, said Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque.

Rezaur Rahman along with other nine prosecutors are now conducting the two cases -- one for murder and another for bomb blast -- filed with Motijheel Police Station following the grenade attack in 2004.

The grenade attack left 24 AL leaders, including late president Zillur Rahman's wife Ivy Rahman, and workers dead, and nearly 300 others injured. Awami League President Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped death.

On March 18, 2012, a Dhaka court framed charges against 30, including Tarique Rahman, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
