JCD activists demo at Shahbagh demanding arrest of Shammo's killers

Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) staged a demonstration at the capital's Shahbagh intersection this morning demanding the arrest of the killers of university student Shahriar Alam Shammo.
Additionally, they staged a sit-in in front of the Inter Continental Hotel on Mintu Road in the morning also protesting against the alleged negligence in the investigation of Shammo's murder case.
A press release issued by the JCD, the student wing of the BNP, said that their sit-in will continue until 5:00pm.
The protests led to a severe traffic jam around the area where demonstrators had gathered.
JCD activists from various organisational tiers began gathering at Shahbagh since morning, following prior announcements.
While the DU unit JCD activists predominantly occupied the Shahbagh intersection, the central committee staged its demonstration in front of the Inter Continental Hotel.
The protesters chanted slogans such as, "No more NSI-backed proctor," "Why do bodies fall on campus while the proctor stays silent?", "My brother lies in the grave, why is the killer free?", and "Justice, justice, we demand justice for Shammo".
Shammo, a student of the 2018-19 session at the Institute of Education and Research (IER), was stabbed near Suhrawardy Udyan on the night of May 13. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around midnight, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, Shammo's elder brother Shariful Alam filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station, accusing 10 to 12 unidentified individuals.
Shammo was also serving as the Literary and Publication Secretary of the JCD unit at AF Rahman Hall.
