Man surrenders after hacking wife to death in Munshiganj

A man surrendered to the local police station after hacking his wife to death following a family dispute in Mirkadim municipality of Munshiganj early today.

The deceased was identified as Mitu Akhter, 28, wife of Sumon Mia, 45.

Officer-in-Charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, Md Saiful Alam confirmed the incident saying that the incident occurred around 2:00am in Purbapara area of Mirkadim.

The husband later surrendered at Munshiganj Sadar Police Station around 5:00am, the OC said.

In a press release, police said the husband confessed to the murder and surrendered voluntarily. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy. A case is in the process of being filed.

According to witnesses and relatives, the couple had married about eight months ago, both for the second time. The deceased had three children from her previous marriage. Since the beginning of their relationship, there had been frequent quarrels and family disputes.

A few days ago, Mitu had gone to her father's house following an argument with her husband. On Monday, she was reportedly brought back by Sumon's friends.

According to neighbours, around 2:00am today, Sumon attacked her with a sharp object, injuring her on various parts of the body and neck, causing her death.

The OC said the accused has not yet confessed whether his friends were involved in the killing.
