Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain continued their sit-in in front of Nagar Bhaban for the sixth consecutive day today, demanding he be handed over mayoral responsibilities of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

From around 10:00am, supporters of Ishraque--gathering under the banner of "Dhakabashi"--assembled in front of the DSCC's headquarters, Nagar Bhaban.

Some of the supporters blocked part of the Gulistan–Bangabazar road at the same time, disrupting regular traffic.

The building has also been under the lock and key for the last five days as part of the protest.

The protesters chanted slogans calling for Ishraque to be immediately installed as mayor and demanded the resignation of Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government.

On March 27, the Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Electoral Tribunal declared Ishraque Hossain, a BNP Foreign Affairs Committee member, as the rightful mayor of DSCC. Following this verdict, the Election Commission issued a gazette notification on April 27, officially recognising him as mayor.
